Julia couldn't understand why anyone would want to kill her sister. She had no money, nothing of value to steal. It was an ugly death, too, that made it look like the killer had a personal vendetta against her and she had no enemies that Julia knew about.
Carina Press published this eBook in January and I got my copy from Net Galley for review (thank you). It's available for purchase at Carina Press and Amazon and is also in audio form through Audible.
The police have more important cases than the death of penniless maid, but Julia is not about to let the her sister's killer away. Constable Grant is afraid of what danger Julia may be putting herself in, so he joins her quest to find the killer. And then Lady Law gets involved... Lady Law solves crimes Scotland Yard can't, so why is Julia so uncomfortable around her?
Mr. Appleton has a taste of steampunk in this story, and his women characters are strong and fearless. The romance between Julia and Constable Grant grows slowly and picks up in intensity as the story goes along. There's a surprise element in the plot that makes the story even more interesting.
Buy yourself a copy and check it out for yourself. It's a fun read.
