The Yard by Alex Grecian

Jack the Ripper was bad enough.  Now someone is killing policemen...

Putnam and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book (thank you).  It will be published May 29th.  If you like good police procederals, you need to get a copy of this book.

Scotland Yard has always fascinated me.  Part of it is the fact that it is over the pond and their police techniques are a bit different than ours.  In this story, it's right after the Ripper did his horrors and there wasn't much advancement in forensic science yet.  Trying to find a killer with no tools to do so is hard, almost impossible; but that was Inspector Day's assignment.

This is a very complex story with multiple plots and intertwining lives that will confuse you if you don't pay attention.  The author also mixes a bit of the past with the present, so you need to watch for that change.  It's not boring in the least.

At one point in the middle, I was afraid half of the police force was going to be killed by people who were not even related to the main murderer.  Not to despair, the author very nicely worked all the loose ends together to make the story end better that that.  Some of the cop antics are mistakes rather than planning, but it still worked out.

If you enjoy a tale that grips your attention and can relate to men working many hours to find a killer, you'll like this story.

I also think there will be a sequel to this book.  There are so many stories involved here, the author could easily continue the story of their lives in the future.  I'd like to see that.  He made me care about his characters and I doubt I'll forget them.

Why not get yourself a copy and see if it impresses you as much as it did me?

Happy reading.
