Bekka of Thorns by Steve Shilstone

Bekka is a dwarf.  She has yellow green skin, carrot colored eyebrows and hair, and she lives in a hedge with the rest of the village.  But she longs for more...

Goddess Fish Blog Tours and the author gave me a copy of this ebook to read for review (thank you).  It is available anywhere you can buy ebooks.

Bekka wants to create a grand tale to tell at the village gatherings but Bekka is too afraid to venture out alone.  So she asks her friend Karro to go with her.  Everyone knows that Karro is a cracked melon (a bit crazy) and Bekka likes her that way.  She also knows how to talk her into going.  That works well and they are soon on their own the in big OPEN!  What Bekka, who is silent most of time, didn't expect was that Karro would take charge once they got beyond the walls of the hedge.  And she does a good job which is even more surprising.  Of course, she still talks as much as ever.

One of the interesting touches Mr. Shilstone added to his story was another language.  While following along with Bekka and Karro, you learn dwarf phrases.

This journey outside the hedge is a bit dangerous and very fearful, but the girls persist.  It has good action scenes and reminds me a bit of Watership Down.  The girls create a hedgelike cover from twigs and travel across the great wide open with that to make them feel more comfortable.

I liked how he handled the ending.  After their adventure, they each received a reward they never would have anticipated.  That was cool.

Steve will be awarding a $10 GC to Wild Child Publishing to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour.

Follow the tour and comment; the more you comment, the better your chances of winning. The tour dates can be found here:

Happy reading.

Thanks so much, Jo Ann, for reviewing Bekka's first adventure. She's very appreciative, and so am I.
