A Cold White Sun, A Constable Molly Smith Mystery by Vicki Delany

It's a pleasant winter day and Cathy is out for a walk with her dog.  As she walks up the hiking trail, she suddenly feels something hit her back and then she feels no more.  The only witness is her little dog...

Poisoned Pen Press and Net Galley allowed me to download this ebook for review (thank you).  It will be published August 6th, so check for a copy on your bookstore visit.

Constable Molly Smith finds herself standing guard over the body while the other cops interview the husband and try to line up suspects.  She's a bit insulted but can't worry about it because she's lowest on the totem pole.  Seniority counts here.

This was an interesting story.  The author gives you two potential suspects who have a paranoia about people getting too close to them.  She also gives Molly a few dates with a new guy who can ski real well.  Adam is her steady boyfriend, but he can't ski as well as she can.  Does that matter in a relationship?

Molly spends her time trying to find a common denominator between Cathy, a school teacher, and her killer and trying to decide how serious she is about Adam.

There were a couple of surprises in the story and that pleased me.  I empathized enough with Molly to want to read the next story in this series.  Watching her character grow and develop is fun and murder mysteries are one of my favorite genres.

Happy reading.
