Jacob loves his grandfather. Some of the stories he tells him are a bit wild, but he loves him anyway. It's not until he finds him almost dead and sees the monster that has killed him that he actually believes him...
Quirk Books sent me a copy of this book for review (thank you). It has been published, so check with your local bookstore for a copy.
After the tragedy of grandpa's death, Jacob finds himself visiting a psychiatrist. No one believes that the monster was real. The doctor does his best to convince him it's all in his mind. Jacob is not sure. Then he finds a letter in his grandfather's belongings and wants to visit the orphanage that his grandfather took refuge in during the war. The doctor says that would be a good move, so his father takes him to the island. Jacob has no idea what adventure he will be beginning.
The orphanage is abandoned. There are particular photos in the basement that resemble some his grandfather had. They're very unusual: someone elevating herself in the air, someone lifting a huge rock, someone with bees, etc. He thought his grandfather was making up tales, but it doesn't appear to be true. Then he gets caught in a tunnel and when he climbs out, he's travelled in time...
This is a strange little tale filled with extraordinary characters and a twisted story. I was still adjusting to what was happening when the story ended, but there will be a sequel. That's good because the story wasn't done and I've been hooked now. Want to read something different? This will fit the bill.
Happy reading.
