Judgement Call by Nick Oldham

Henry is a young cop who is a little too cocksure of himself.  He knows he's right and he's willing to do what it takes to prove it.  When his superior tells him to try to look at the big picture and not pursue a case of domestic violence, he's incensed.  It's not until later he realizes the offender is a snitch for the supervisor...

Severn House and Net Galley allowed me to download and read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published February 1st, so make a note to look for it then.

Mr. Oldham takes Henry from boyhood to manhood in this tale.  Henry has no fear and is determined to take down a robbery gang that's already gotten away from him once as well as the man who is abusing his woman.  Unfortunately, they're part of a Polish gang, and they aren't easy to take down.

This is a police procedural where everyone is trying to protect themselves and get some glory from the cases, even if they aren't the ones gathering the information.  Some of the officers are little too free with their fists.  Henry is transitioning from being single and bedding all the women that catch his eye to thinking his current girlfriend might be all he needs.  And, in between, the robbers are trying to kill him.

The pace of the story is fast and fluid and you're never sure what will happen next.  It's not a happy story but justice is served and Henry finally smartens up a bit.  Youth can be hard to live through.

Why not jump in Henry's car and go out on a shift with him?  You won't be bored.

Happy reading.
