The Old Blue Line: A Joanna Brady Novella by J. A. Jance

Did you ever wonder how Joanna met Butch?  Here's the tale, right here...

Witness Impulse and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be on sale June 17th, so grab a copy of it then.

I love this author.  She writes good mysteries, has an excellent writing style, and mixes a bit of romance in her books.  I've read her work before and was pleased to find something new.

Butch is running Roadhouse Bar and Grill in Peoria, Arizona.  He lost everything in Chicago.  His ex-wife took the house, the business, the savings, and his pride.  He had to start over with nothing.  He's moved on and hasn't looked back until a couple of cops show up in his joint.  They aren't there for the food.

Seems his ex-wife got murdered and he was in town the weekend she died.  He didn't see or visit her but tell the cops that and watch their reactions.  It doesn't take him long before he realizes he's being framed.  All he can do is call in some favors.  What he didn't expect was how much help he'd get from one request.

Never write off old cops.  They might be retired but it doesn't mean they don't have connections.  The lawyer they find him must be 100 years old and moves into his apartment to handle the case.

I found the whole story enjoyable.  It's fun to watch the oldies do their magic.  The ending is great.  One view of Joanna and Butch is lost.  Poor boy...
