Nobody's Child by Libby Fischer Hellman

Georgia Davis is back again and some secrets from her past are coming back to haunt her...

The author of this book graciously sent me a copy to read for review (thank you).  It's been published and is available for purchase now.

Georgia doesn't remember much about her mother.  She walked out when she was a child and never came back, never wrote, never called.  Just left without looking back.  When her father got violent and abusive with her, she understood why but she never understood how she could just go and leave her there.  That's all in the past, though, and she's hoping that she has dealt with it and it's behind her.

When she gets an oddly written note that tells her she has a sister and she's pregnant and she needs to find her, she initially thinks it's a hoax.  A DNA test tells her otherwise.  She knows nothing of this girl or who might have her, but she can't write it off.  It appears she has a half-sister and she's shocked into action.

When a man following her is shot down in the street and strange vehicles are watching her, she begins to understand this isn't a simple case.  She calls in old markers and gets what help she can from folks she met while being a cop.  The more she finds out, the worse it gets.  This is not just sex trafficking, it's worse.  And there are Russians in it.

In the meantime, she has met up with a police chief from her past and they hit it off well.  They begin dating and she's beginning to hope she might hang on to this one.

Her "unknown" sister is tough and resilient and manages to stay alive.  The Russian that has her wants to bring down Georgia.  Georgia knows this and enlists aid from someone totally unexpected. The ending is tension and action filled with a confrontation on the farm they occupied.  It kept me reading anxiously to see who lived and who died.

While this tale has ended, Georgia's story is still alive.  She's angered her boyfriend, has a needy young pregnant girl living with her now, and who knows what her next case will be.  You won't be bored.
