A Blossom of Bright Light by Suzanne Chazin

A well known drunk claims he's seen Our Lady of Sorrows laying in the leaves and she had a baby.  Jimmy is free on a rare night with his woman.  They both have jobs and children; it's hard to find a night of their own.  He's not going to let anything mess with it.  They've checked out this guy's visions before, and that's all it's been.  But he's going to regret not going for the rest of his life...

Kensington and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published October 27th.

They find the bodies early in the morning.  Jimmy answers the call and has to face the baby that died not too long before.  He has to live with the thought that if he'd checked last night, she might still be alive.  It gives him the fire he needs to work hard on the case.  It also drives a wedge between him and his girlfriend.  Adele wanted to go last night.  She says nothing but he can feel it. It doesn't help when she has an opportunity to follow the Senator to DC and get a well paying job.  He's afraid he's losing her.

You have dirty politics, a pedophile, blackmail and more in this story.  This story also covers some of the difficulties of the immigrants.  Those who have worked hard and paid taxes and lived here for some time can be shipped home over a minor offense in the past.  That's what's happening to a small family in this book.  Adele is working hard to keep the family together but she finds the others who donate to her business and talk big won't do anything that might jeopardize their run for office.  She's trying to find another way to make it happen.

While Adele works on that, Jimmy works on the case.  Their personal relationship is real rocky.  She can't decide if she will go or stay.  He's afraid she's already gone.  And he's still looking for a killer.

It's a fast paced story with a dramatic ending.  It kept me interested to the end and I'm glad Ms. Chazin ended it the way she did.  It could have gone more than one way; it went the right way.  It was a good read.
