When and how do you tell your little one they are adopted? This is an endearing story that offers a variety of ways they may have found their little Asian girl. They're sweet and fun to read about. Ms. Ling writes a good story and Ms. Lanan illustrations are great.
Lee & Low Books and Edelweiss gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you). It will be published November 1st.
Maybe she floated in from the sea. Or an angel delivered her. Or, or, or... The stories are complete on two pages and then another supposition is offered. At the end, the true story of how she became part of their family is told.
I like the imagination used, the illustrations and the tales. This would be an easy way to get into discussion about the adoption. It's not heavy, it makes it seem completely normal and it shows the family they share.
I know two families who have adopted unwanted Asian children. They love their children dearly and are enjoying motherhood. The dads are just as happy. If you have no success at pregnancy, why don't you see who needs your love and adopt as these people have. It can be very rewarding for everyone involved.
