Watching Edie by Camilla Way

Edie was beautiful and a bit wild.  She did booze and drugs and slept with her boyfriend and his friends.  She was out of control at 17.  When the worst happens, she tells her mother.  Her mother throws her out of the house.  She leaves her mom and that town behind and goes to live with her uncle.  She doesn't stay in touch.  She hasn't any desire to see what happened after the main event.  So she's totally shocked when she opens the door one day and sees Heather in the hallway.  Heather was the friend she left behind.  Why is she here in her new life?

NAL and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published August 2nd.

Edie is pregnant now.  She had a one night fling and has never told the man (who already had a family he had to sponsor into this country) that she got pregnant.  She's hoping her child will be a boy.  Unfortunately, it's a little girl.  And, Heather, who is still the same as she used to be, stays to help with the baby.  At first it's fine.  Then Edie finds out that Heather is controlling her by telling people to stay away and fielding her phone calls.  It gets worse...

Edie destroyed Heather's life in the past.  Heather is pretending things are fine but Edie knows they aren't.  She just doesn't know what the past will cost her in the present...

This is a creepy tale of revenge served cold.  No one comes out unscathed.  It's suspenseful and sad.  Lives that could have been so much fall apart and can't be put back together again.  I'm glad my puberty was much quieter...
