She's a willful child that acts out because she doesn't think her mother loves her. She's on a "vision quest" as part of a camp out her mother sent her on. She doesn't follow the directions and gets lost. What she finds scares her to death...
Harper and Edelweiss let me read this book for review (thank you). It will be published April 3rd.
Bernie has been forced to go give a talk to the girls at this camp. When she arrives, the girl is missing and those plans go by the wayside. The girl returns but the man who went to find her didn't. A search and rescue party comes out to look for him.
Some tribes used caves to hold the bodies of their dead. They left them goods to help them on their way and they considered these areas sacred. Annie had stumbled into to one so they had to locate and mark it so no one else did. As they found more of them, they found they'd been vandalized. Someone was stealing the goods.
There are a lot of characters in this story who are not quite what they seem. There's more than one death. The person stealing the pots is selling them but not in a fashion that can be traced. There were several people with their fingers in the pot, someone is drugging people, and while Bernie plays cop and Chee goes to a class, Bernie's little sister is still getting in trouble. She's growing up and doing better, but she still needs supervision.
Reading this is like visiting with old friends. I've reading about these characters for years and Anne is carrying on the tradition of her father's books. This was a very good read and I'll be watching for the next one.
