Tart of Darkness by Denise Swanson

Dani left her job because it was not fulfilling and they asked her to do things that went against her ethics.  She's trying to make it by catering dinners and making lunches for college students.  When she finds out she's been left a house by her mother's friend, this career choice looks like it might have a chance.  When the college students who were in the rooms near her get evicted for a party they didn't hold, they go to Dani and beg to move in.  They'll pay rent and they'll help her cook.  She agrees; she can use the money and the help.

Sourcebooks Landmark and Edelweiss let me read this book for review (thank you).  It will be published April 3rd.

When a spoiled college girl wants her to cater a big party she's having she says no.  The girls ask her to do it and say that they will be invited to the party if she does.  Despite not wanting to, she agrees.  She'll be sorry.  By the next morning the spoiled college girl is dead and the cop wants to pin it on Dani.

As the cop browbeats Dani, Ivy calls her Uncle who shows up in short order.  As the Uncle comes in the front door, the detective goes out the back.  Uncle wants to help both Ivy and Dani and suggests they work together to find the killer.  That's not a smart thing to do but it does have results.

This was an interesting cozy mystery.  I liked the mix of college girls and Dani's friendship with them.  I enjoyed watching the Uncle and Dani both dancing around each other and pretending they are not interested.  I'd read more in this series.  I know love is going to win.
